Lest We Forget...

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields...

~ Lt. -Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

...They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them...

~Excerpt from For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon

Two pieces of poetry that never fail to move me.

Have you thanked a veteran today?

HNT tomorrow.... today, this just seems more important.

Hey Ms Scarlett baby,

I shall have a few silent moments to think of our fellow comrades, the brave US fallen and as always will wear my Remembrance poppy with pride..

XOXO as always,

Wifey

Thank you for two wonderful poems that I haven't read in a long, long time.

As I blog and google and work and drive the car i want, and go to the church i chose, and read the books I want, and vote for the idiot I want, I always try and remember the men and women who fought for that right.

God Bless The Army Man
Who serves across the sea,
Protecting all the things we love
To help us all be free

Thanks Scarlett.

Thanks for posting this, a lot of people forget about this day. And as a wife of AD Navy and the daughter of an Air Force veteran I just want to say thanks for remembering those that many forget.
