My last post laid out the gist of my marriage. Two people who get along well, love each other, come across as the perfect couple to all their friends... and yet, one of them has withdrawn physically.
At first I thought it was me. Coming off a painful knee injury I had put on some weight, and the resulting insecurity meant I wasn't taking care of myself they way I used to. I stopped worrying about the usual Girlie things like hair and cute clothes and feeling attractive. To put a fine point on it ~ I let myself go.
One day, as I stood in line at the local grocery store, I idly watched a woman with her children. She was maybe 5 years older than me, but she looked 15 years older. She was harassed, screechy, all 'round unpleasant to watch; with grizzled looking hair and a permanently down-turned mouth.
In short, Dear Readers, I saw my future.
That was a year and a half ago. Since then I've shed the excess weight, taken up running, grown out my hair, sorted out my wardrobe, and my attitude. One might think that the husband of a woman who suddenly transforms like this might sit up and take notice, right?
No such luck. An absent-minded, half-assed acknowledgement of my accomplishment was all I got, and I had to prompt him for that. Everywhere we went people we knew would gush over how great I looked - Hubby would smile and nod indulgently... and change the subject. Physically nothing changed either. Same avoidance, same disappointment, same frustration.
*Sigh*
When it had been over 6 months since I had been able to lure/trick/coerce him into sex, I decided enough was enough. I went back to that dating website, armed with the lessons learned from my last go-round, and set up a new profile.
As before, the response flooded in; but this time I knew what I wanted right from the beginning. I wasn't going to settle for anything less than that elusive connection. I talked to a lot of men in that first month, met a few, slept with a couple out of sheer boredom; but still didn't find the spark I was looking for.
And then I got a message from Patrick...

The spark: the most wonderful and the most dangerous part of an affair.
Hurry! Tell your dear readers the message!
Kimberly - Oh, the spark.... is there anything better?
Mr. Fitzwell - I love your name... it makes me giggle. Check my next post for the message!
Please! Don't be so formal! No salutation required! Call me Dick!
Aren't we living for the smiles and giggles?
:)
I know I am, Dick! ;)
The old story.
Maybe what we really need is a system where after 7 years you get to swap. Then the husbands who aren't interested can move to the wives who aren't interested, and ones who are still alive below the waist can pair up...
Prospero - Sounds good to me!
