He was special. I was just out of a bad relationship, my self esteem at an all-time low. The guy I had been living with up until the month before hadn't been physically abusive, but he'd got his shots in emotionally. One morning I'd woken up and just couldn't do it anymore. Within a week I had moved out ~ bunking temporarily with a friend, my things in storage while I looked for a place of my own.
The friend and I were out for the night, playing pool at a local bar, when I saw him for the first time. He was bent over the neighboring pool table, reaching for a long shot, and showing off his very fine ass to its best advantage. Believe me when I say that he had The Finest Ass I had ever seen ~ that boy could wear Wranglers like no one I had ever seen. Needless to say, he caught me mid-drooling stare and busted me, laughing.
He and his buddy soon switched to our table. There was banter, there were smoldering stares, there was a completely hot slow dance. He looked me straight in the eye and propositioned me ~ I stared back at him and accepted just as boldly. He was tall, slightly scruffy in a very sexy way, slim and muscled in the way only guys working the oil patch were.
There ensued one of the most eye-opening weekends of my life, sexually-speaking. He was gentle, and sweet, and exuberant, and OhMyFreakingGod great in bed! We simply couldn't get enough of each other. I went from feeling small and insignificant to feeling like a goddess nearly overnight. He was, in a word, great for my ego ~ exactly what I needed in my life.
We saw each other, off and on, for nearly a year. Off when he was away working, and on when he was in town. He'd call me on his way into town and pick me up on the way to his place. It was the first relationship I'd ever been involved in that was purely fun. There was no thought of the future, we just enjoyed the hell out of each other. We laughed a lot when we were together, the sex was amazing, and we were happy to just enjoy each other.
When he told me about the job offer on the East coast I was thrilled for him. It was a big step up for him, and I encouraged him to jump at it. He seemed reluctant, and when I asked why he confessed that he didn't know how long the job would be and he was sad at the idea that we might not see each other any more. I was floored. Never would I have guessed that he was more attached to me than he let on.
In the end, he took the job. We had one last wonderful weekend together, spent mostly in bed. When he dropped me off late Sunday night he came around to my side of the car and pulled me into a warm hug. That kiss was memorable ~ sweet and wild and thorough ~ and when he put me back gently, we were both smiling.
That was the last time I saw him ~ the man who brought me back to life after the worst relationship of my life. I missed him for a long time, and I always wondered what could have been; but mostly I was content to let him be one of those touchstone memories I go back to when I need a lift.
Recently I heard he was back in town. He ran into one of my bosses (the one who's my Dad), recognized the last name and asked if there was a connection. Sitting on my desk at work is his email address. What the hell I'm supposed to do with it is anybody's guess.
Many thanks to
Kimberly for including me in the group post fun... now go check out the others playing this time:
