Make the Connection

I had a long, and interesting, conversation with a blog friend about the nature of my *ahem* "extracurricular" activities, and the effect they have on my life, and the lives of the men in my life.

You see, I've never been interested in just "getting off". If all I wanted was to get fucked, I could be doing that any night of the week that I wanted to. This isn't bragging. It's simply the nature of the "adult" dating websites. Women are vastly outnumbered by the men and we can pretty much have our pick at our whim. I'm not interested in that kind of activity. I have my toys and lots of batteries for that purpose.

My problem, if you choose to see it that way, is that I'm looking for something else. Something far deeper.

As most of you already know, I'm completely, utterly, touch-starved at home. Between his long stretches of time away for work, and his total disinterest in intimacy, my husband could happily go months between any sort of touch. No hand-holding, no soft caresses, no kisses, nothing. It's a wasteland.

Right from the beginning, I've insisted on a connection with anyone I meet. If all you're out for is an occasional screw, I'm SO not your girl. I want to know you. I want to like you. I want us to click, I want there to be a relationship. A friendship above all else, but a relationship.

The problem is, that this can play havoc with one's emotions. Completely foreseeable, yes; but a bit unnerving nonetheless.

Patrick and I found that connection instantly. It surprised both of us with its strength and intensity, but we reveled in it. We loved each other. On a lot of levels, we still do. I speculated once, and he confirmed at the time, that the only thing holding him in his marriage was his children, and I completely understood that.

It's a bit easier for me, to be fair. I come to any relationship unburdened by the ties of children. I know how huge a pull they are - and absolutely should be. People get married for any number of reasons - some good, some bad - but once kids are in the picture, well, things change. They have to. I would worry about someone who didn't feel that need to be with his kids.

In a lot of ways, I am kind of the perfect woman to have an affair with. I'll never ask you to change your circumstances for me, I won't cling and demand more time, I will never ask you to take time away from your family, I have no desire (and never have had, really) to dish about my "exploits" with my girlfriends - this blog notwithstanding. No one in my real life will ever know about you. I am a No Strings Attached relationship in all ways but that one.

Aiden complained once, good-naturedly so, that I was supposed to be his out-of-town playmate. He knew from the start, as did Patrick, that I wasn't interested in a disconnected fuck; but thought he could manage it. And for a little while, he says, he did just that. Except that he kept thinking about me, about our time together. And he stayed in touch, even when it seemed we would never have more than that one time.

Instead, he and I have found a deeper connection - one that rivals, possibly even surpasses, the one between Patrick and I. This is astounding to me. That two such incredible men could feel this way about me was something inconceivable to me a mere year ago.

Lately, I've been feeling a strong need for real, loving intimacy. For all the fun I have playing with submission and role playing, right now I really need some very vanilla, look-me-in-the-eye, someone-gives-a-shit-about-me lovemaking. The kind I'm not getting (and may never get...) from my husband. I recognize that this makes me vulnerable to giving in to Patrick. He's been hinting around about trying to get together again; and I know, beyond all doubt, that he and I could pick right up where we left off.

Before you all chime in with a comment - don't worry. I have no plans of allowing that to happen. He's actually making progress at home, and though we still talk nearly every day, I have no intention of interfering with that. He is a dangerous temptation for me, but one I know that I need to avoid. I will be strong. (Dear God, help me, I will be strong...)

Aiden is a much safer temptation. He's further away, he's infinitely more careful, he understands the need for balance for both of us; and, oh, that spark between us... it intensifies every time we are together.

I just need to hang on until he gets here. A little over a month from now.

I think I need to buy more batteries...

I never believed in NSA sex. We both thought it's what it should be like, but we got pulled into it and discovered together how wonderful it could be, to have this intense connection attaching us together. Now, it's what I demand too. Because it's more fulfilling and complete.

But don't you think you deserve to be loved and desired in your own relationship? Why do we stay, even though we have no children to hold us back? Do we feel we are too old to start over again with someone else?

I love this post, Scarlett!! Each word you wrote could be mine. Be strong and get those batteries going. ;-)

I can not do the NSA thing either. There has to be more there for me to enjoy it and want it to continue.

I vote for a Battery Fund for you. We all want to see you wait for Aiden. *grins*

Hi Scarett Baby,

I too could, like you have an unlimted amount of NSA xex but that is not what I am after as again like you I want more, more, more...

I know that everyone is going to kill me but I think that you should give Aiden a second chance because everyone deserves a second chance..

XOXO as always,

Wifey

Another wonderfully interesting post by you, Scarlett. There's no such thing as NSA in my good, little world. If all I want is to get off, then I can do that myself just fine. Like you said, it's the connection that inspires and motivates me.

Good luck to you, second chance or no. You're very sensual and cool and you deserve the intimacies that you desire.

Great post Scarlett. I totally understand and can't do the no-strings thing either. Might as well just take matters in one's own hands. Hang in there until Aiden can visit - hope the time goes quick for you.

*raises hand* Yeah hon....NSA sex, I wrote about it the other day. No click? Nothing's going to happen. I just *can't*.

But while battery operated 'friends' come in handy, they never fulfill the intimacy that is sounds as if you are craving. I've known that feeling. Hang in there...

Ok so I am going to take a little different approach here and please do not be offended, but I feel the question needs to be asked since you are so public and yet private with this. Why stay married? I spent almost 20 years in starved relationship, and probably could have stayed 20 more, but I finally got tired of the begging, the crying, the feeling worthless, the lack of intimacy. I loved my wife, but I did not LOVE my wife. We tried to fix it but couldn't. I never cheated on my spouse until the end when I had a long distance emotional affair. She really never got over the hump from that and never gave me time to heal. I am not judging you. I mean I love to read about your experiences. In fact I wish I could be as lucky. It has almost been two years and I still have not managed to hook up with anybody and not so much that I couldn't, but more for the reasons you have cited.

You see I can't just fuck for the sake of fucking. In some ways i feel stunted by that block, but there has to be more there for me. There has to be an emotional connection and no risk of ruining a good friendship. I slept with a good friend once long ago and while it was intense an exciting it changed the nature of the relationship forever and I hated myself for doing it.

I guess finally I have to say i read what you want ultimately and I can sooo relate. I really can I just wish I knew how to find it...ya know..So if you do don't leave the rest of us behind without sharing your secret..OK? :-)

Wonderful thought-provoking post Scarlett!

You sure you aren't living at my house? Your starvation sounds eerily familiar to me and I am sorry for your hurt there.

My gunman situation occurred by accident but it revealed so much to me...namely that I was starving for passion, connection and touch.

I wish you strength and love as you hold on for the good things that are surely coming your way.

xx

I cannot give advice because you and I are not only in the same situation we have the same feelings. I too can get it anytime I desire but I am looking for more. I have started an on line relationship with an old friend and it may go to the next step soon. "Meeting." It's been a long time since we were together but destiny is bringing us closer again. Good luck to you.

I was thinking the same thing - and I do not mean to offend in anyway, cause I really enjoy your blog and your writing... But why stay married?

Why not go for the divorce, or maybe even marriage counseling?

I agree that ya gotta have a connection. But if you are not getting it from home and he will not give it to you - divorce seems like the better option.

I only ask to try and understand a bit better.

On my side of the fence - it would tear me a part should my bf EVER find our relationship so bad that he had to stray. The thought of it kills me, and I would probably physically harm the woman that was the one involved..lol (or... contemplate a nasty spell..lol)

Actually - I was with a man for 17 years that was so emotionally/verbally abusive to me it really fucked me up - but for some reason as much as I would have loved to find that special guy to make me feel better - I realized that I was the one that had to make myself feel better from within. And I did. And I left him. lol.

Please understand I am not trying to be rude or anything. Just curious.
